Hola! Bonjour! Jambo!
… Okay that’s the extent of my Duolingo training.
Hi! I’m Kellie, a freelance travel content creator from Vancouver. You can find me chasing adventures across six continents and counting (looking at you, Antarctica).
My offices are determined by a mix of wanderlust and Wi-Fi. I am the editor of travel publication World Footprints and travel expert on City TV’s Breakfast Television. I write for media outlets and provide digital marketing services for brands.
Travel is my language, and I am all about creative, authentic, compelling, wanderlust-inducing content. I won’t settle for anything less than a life of adventure, and my goal is to guide, educate, and inspire fellow travellers along the way.
Now let’s get to know each other and the world!
Not into doing math while travelling? How about getting lost? Never fear, fellow travellers — I’ve got some apps for you!
Growing up, I never wanted to get too far off the beaten path. All inclusive resorts in Mexico and organized tours in Europe were a-okay with me. But then I went on a trip to Rio and everything changed. This is my story of how getting out of my comfort zone led to the life of adventure I live today.
If you didn’t Instagram it, did you even travel?
As someone who is obsessed with travelling and social media, I would hope I’ve learned to balance the two. I shared my tips for using social media to enhance your travel experience, not hinder it.
I curated a collection of travel guides to world-class destinations around the globe for the launch of Mapped. The guides share articles on where to eat, where to drink, things to do, a neighbourhood guide, and Instagram inspiration to guide Daily Hive’s Millennial readers through their travels.
As Mapped Editor at Daily Hive, I created content for various clients in the travel industry. My role in these partnerships included ideation of concepts, client liaising, and following jam-packed itineraries on press trips. Sometimes, this involved putting a snake around my neck and trying not to lose my sh*t.
I shared my tips on travelling in the age of social media on as resident Travel Expert for BT. We discussed precautions around geotagging and selfie taking, as well as how to get an awesome travel photo without being obnoxious about it. Tip 1: leave the selfie stick at home.
If you read my About page or follow me on Insta, you know that I tend to make hashtags for my travels. Another thing that I like to make from my travels is videos — AKA amateur consolidations of my favourite Instagram Stories set to my song of the trip.
They make me happy. Take a gander on my IGTV by clicking here if you like!
I provided photos from my trip to Cape Town to one of my favourite hostels, Atlantic Point Backpackers. The hostel uses them as marketing materials to attract new guests over social media.
“Kellie has stayed at Atlantic Point a couple of times and has shown us some major love on social media and in her writing. Her Instagram page is inspiring and authentic which we love! Her shout-outs have brought us new guests and has helped us better engage our target audience. We have grown our Canadian market by at least 100% this year alone.
She also supplied us with awesome photography from her time in Cape Town that we use for our own social media and marketing material. Kellie is highly approachable and is passionate about her work. Atlantic Point can’t wait for her to come back soon!"
Tim Louw, Co-Founder, Atlantic Point Backpackers
“We used Kelie to experience and write about our travel brand twice in 2019, in Cuba and Cape Town. In both cases, she was able to take the essence of what we do and explain it to her audience in a way that oozed enthusiasm, authenticity, and her own unique ‘spice’. It was a great way to speak to a millennial audience!
You don’t see a lot of thoughtful and thorough travel writing these days, that goes beyond basic lists, tips and “must-sees”. Kellie went in depth with our travel product in both destinations, and her writing conveyed her own experience of our company in a meaningful way that truly resonated with us.”
