Picture an escape a couple of hours outside the hustle and bustle of Cape Town. You’re driving through the mountains, over a few scenic passes, along the breathtaking Whale Route, passing through Hermanus. Keep following the road, and you’ll end up in Gansbaai — famous for its shark cage diving, although the Great Whites are slim pickings these days. But there's another very enticing reason to visit, one that’s just starting to get the attention it deserves. Award after award, blowing up on social media… you might want to get there now!
Pure Sea Boutique Lodge is calling.
You’ll enter the gates into Romansbaai Beach & Fynbos Estate and drive through fields of the Cape’s iconic fynbos — keep your eye out for zebra friends! No, you’re not back on safari, but you’re going to love this adventure too, I promise! As you pull up to the doors, the blue, twinkling sea stretches before you, and you’ll know you’re in the right place.
It’s hard to put into words exactly why I love Pure Sea so much, but it’s kinda the same reason that makes me love South Africa as a whole. The chance to stumble upon your own pristine slice of natural paradise, whether it’s in the mountains, the desert, or along the coast. Here, it’s untouched, uncrowded, and beautifully yours, offering you a private escape in an almost otherworldly landscape.
With only four rooms, each opening up to sand and sea, Pure Sea has plenty of cozy spaces to relax and unwind. This is why it’s the perfect end to your safari and Cape Town adventure — an absolute gem for my Adventurelust travellers. “Kellie — this is the nicest place we have ever stayed in our life”, to quote some of my recent clients.
The owners at Pure Sea, Bjorn and Pichy, have poured their hearts and souls into creating this paradise, and it shows. Every detail is attended to, the rooms are decorated immaculately, and the amazing staff is there to ensure you have not a care in the world.
Spend your days savouring fresh breakfasts, lounging by the pool on beanbags, hammocks, or comfy loungers. Stroll down the sandy hill to the beach, where you can dip your toes (or plunge right in!) into Caribbean-blue waters, walk barefoot on powdery white sand, and keep an eye out for birds or, when in season, the main attraction here — WHALES! Hermanus is known for the best land-based whale watching, but did you know it’s even better in De Kelders, on the same coastline as Pure Sea?
The Pure Sea experience offers so many special, thoughtful moments for you and your loved ones: a picture-perfect picnic, a never-ending tapas spread, or a soak in the wood-fired hot tub with bubbly as the sun goes down. If you’re up for more activities, the staff is happy to arrange options like whale watching, shark diving, penguin sanctuary visit, horseback riding, biking, golfing and more!
This place is truly something special and it is my honour and privilege to be able to share it with my Adventurelust clients. Message me at kellie@adventurelust.travel to book your stay — YOU DESERVE!
