The staycation of my dreams: A night at The Silo Hotel in Cape Town

DSC00539.JPG

I am writing this blog post from the most exquisite hotel in the most exquisite city in the world.

Sitting in my bikini on a rooftop, staring out at one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature (Table Mountain) to my left, my soulmate mountain (Lion’s Head) straight in front of me, the stunning waterfront and marina just below me where seals are playing in the water (they’re waving at me — hi guys!) and this ridiculous infinity pool over to my right.

I should probably go for another dip soon.

Pleasantly full from my breakfast of fresh berries and yogurt, melt-in-your-mouth croissants and pasteis, and fresh and delish eggs benedict. Slightly hungover from drinking bubbly from 2-10pm yesterday but also incredibly refreshed from my 2 baths in the past 24 hours plus sleeping on a cloud of Egyptian cotton.

PINCH ME!!!!

I’m at the Silo Hotel, a contemporary artistic masterpiece with the best views in Cape-Town-i-mean-the-world, by the prestigious collection Royal Portfolio. I first fell in love with the Silo when I came to its rooftop bar a couple years ago — I can think of no better place to sip bubbly and watch the sunset, honestly, in the whole world.

Now, you guys know me: I stay in 10-bed hostels and go on 5 day hikes with no showers and will pee in the bush but I’m pretty boujee at heart, you know. It’s important to have balance.

The Silo staff has always given me such a warm welcome and made me feel at “home” (IMAGINE), from giving me a tour of the suites to a glass of bubbly upon arrival to Felly’s special cocktail concoctions, and just generally always being friendly and accommodating.

It’s probably the most luxurious hotel I have ever seen and since my taste is bigger than my budget, I put it on my bucket list that I would stay there one day.

Thanks to my friends at the Silo, COVID providing unique opportunities for collaborations, and the universe working its magic, that bucket list dream came true and I got to come to the Silo for the most incredible staycation of life.

I came here on a press rate, but this is absolutely worth putting on your bucket list for when you come to Cape Town. If you can make it work, it is so, so, so worth it. Honeymoon, treat yo’self, staycation, whatever you gotta do, just start saving and start manifesting, people. This place is even more dreamy than I had imagined.

I already knew the customer service was impeccable, but checking in as a guest just reaffirmed the attention to detail and friendliness of the staff. I came with a friend and we were welcomed at reception with a glass of bubbly (they know what language I speak, clearly) — there was a bottle waiting in our room as well. This was accompanied by personalized notes, fresh fruit, and chocolate, all to make our stay that much more special.

The rooms are just ridiculous. The windows (cleaned every 2 weeks to stay sparkly clean) are designed to give the fullest view of the most beautiful star of the show, which is Cape Town itself. I mean, there are luxurious hotels all over the world, but the Silo’s view of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, the waterfront and marina, honestly leaves no room for comparison. Cape Town’s main attraction is its incredible views, and they are on FULL display at the Silo.

sigh.

The beds were obviously like clouds, and I could see the sparkling water and the twinkling ferris wheel from mine. The reflection of the pane glass convex windows from golden hour to sunrise (of course I woke up for sunrise — and had a bubble bath for it. My second bubble bath of my stay here) was so so spectacular.

We sipped bubbly all day and chilled out by the pool, which of course is a PHENOMENAL spot to take in the views. I’d been dreaming of getting a photo on those iconic red striped cushions, so naturally I made my friends take about 80 of them.

After my bath and a quick recharge in the room, we went to the rooftop for dinner. This wasn’t my first Silo rooftop rodeo, but as a guest it just felt a wee bit more special, you know?! We had a beef sharing platter and it was unreal. More bubbly (I think? little blurry?) and my favourite gin cocktail, the Hugo. I also love the poke bowl here! We also had some yummy ice cream and chocolate sauce for dessert because are you getting the theme is TREAT YO’SELF.

That brings me to today, where i am currently resisting leaving to the best of my ability, they may have to carry me out kicking and screaming. I’m working on my laptop (crazy how much more motivated I am with a clear head and a Table Mountain view), going for intermittent dips and floats in the pool while staring out at Cape Town below — so much going on down there! hi seals! — and chatting to my peeps on my phone. Life. Is. Ridic.

Of course my stay was much too short and I am slightly fearful this will ruin all other accommodations for me in the future, but am so grateful to have been able to experience this beautiful space in this beautiful city for any amount of time at all. Who knows, maybe the universe will bring me back one day! Don’t quit your daydream, folks!
