A little slice of paradise: Victoria Falls River Lodge - Island Treehouse Suites, on the Zambezi River, Zimbabwe
You guys… I have discovered… heaven on earth.
And it goes by the name of Victoria Falls River Lodge.
When we pulled up on our boat to the Victoria Falls River Lodge Island, the Island Manager (cool title hey) TK said it best: “Welcome to our little slice of paradise.”
He ain’t wrong.
This is a lodge I have been liaising with and booking for my Adventurelust clients, and I had high hopes before visiting, I had a hunch it would be the most luxurious place I’ve ever seen… and it is. Set on the banks of the Zambezi River, the atmosphere is so open, refreshing, warm but breezy, it is so idyllic and picturesque I truly cannot cope. There is the main lodge with the Luxury Tents (each with their own plunge pool), and a villa that sleeps up to 10 as well as other family villas, which are all completely stunning and if you have a family and want to treat yourselves, Victoria Falls River Lodge will be an incredible getaway. Email me at kellie@adventurelust.travel and I will book you into the best spot for your dream trip!
I stayed in the Island Treehouse Suite, and it could not have been any dreamier. The main dining area is welcoming, inviting, beautiful decor, eggshell chairs and a hammock (with a built-in pillow, which was an upgrade from the hammocks I used to sleep in in hostels in Colombia I’ll tell ya that much), there is an EPIC little bar up a few stairs that overlooks the river, with high tables and comfy couch seating, so so beautiful. Then to get to the rooms (there are only 6 on the island — I was suite 6 which, not gonna lie, is the nicest one) you walk across the elevated wooden walkway through the gorgeous forest, which felt like I was in the Amazon, except this one is elevated in case of passing hippos, ellies, or crocs!
Here is a reel with a virtual tour of the lodge and my island treehouse suite.
The suites have their own private plunge pools on a spacious deck overlooking the river, bath GOALS (how do I even have a bath without a view anymore?), two shower heads, comfy beds, all the tea/coffee/rusks/refreshments you could ask for, they are just simply stunning. My suite was one of two that also have an upgraded feature of a starbed upstairs, which allow you to sleep under the stars (but in mosquito nets which helps!), I fell asleep gazing at the stars, woke up a few times to hippos and even hyenas, and woke up to the most SURREAL sunrise. Such a special experience.
It’s an amazing spot to stopover before or after your safari (which I can also help organize — I came here after an epic week in Botswana!), see the Falls which are one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, decompress, relax, take in the incredible views and serenity. One couple was there for a week for their honeymoon and I think they deserve a medal or something, how epic?!
Other than relaxing, you can also take a sunset boat cruise along the river, which we did and made some amazing new friends, hi Marci and Ed! The cruise is beautiful, you get drinks and snacks, and you can scope out the hippos and crocs in the water and whatever else decides to pass by the shores. There are also game drives in the surrounding national park, guided tours of the falls, options to take a helicopter ride around the falls or other activities.
I will be pinching myself about this one for a LOOOOooOoOoOong time that’s for sure.
