Exploring Peru with Contiki
Hi guys!
Just updating my blog with some of the places I’ve been and haven’t personally blogged about.
In October 2018 I went to Peru on a partnership with Daily Hive and Contiki. I did Contiki’s Inca Panorama tour and it was an absolutely incredible experience. Peru blew me away with its diversity of landscapes (as you increase in altitude it literally feels like you’re going into a different planet) and the tour was so jam packed, we did so much, I wouldn’t have traded it for the world.
My top recos are:
Visit Arequipa, the White City. Watch the sunset from a rooftop and watch the white turn pink :)
Obv Machu Picchu — we did the one-day Inca tour trek to Machu Picchu, and then stayed overnight at Aguas Calientes at the base, and woke up for sunrise to shuttle up to Machu Picchu again. This was the best thing I did all trip — always trade sunrises for sleep, people. This is when the world is the most magical.
Hike Rainbow Mountain — wake up at 3am and transit from Cusco. BUNDLE up, the hike is COLD and HARD — the altitude will leave you extremely breathless. It reaches 5,200 metres above sea level, which is Everest Base Camp level. You’ll be glad you did it but just be gentle on your body with the altitude! Come early to allow yourself to adjust, and chew on those coca leaves :)
The Colca Canyon itself is stunning. Just take in the landscapes. The canyon, Condor’s Cross, all the rice terraces.
Cusco’s streets are adorable, it’s amazing to stand in the main square and see the city lights twinkling up the hills around you. Wander through the streets, shop in the markets, and go dine at Limbus Resto Bar for an amazing view.
Take all the alpaca selfies. There are adorable.
